Students create a book of seven pages (can be note cards) that allow then to set a routine for in the morning either before school or the class can make one as a whole to help students know what to do each day. Teachers can make a poster to hang on a wall for the entire class to know what the plan everyday such as a schedule or just a set routine for the morning if the routine stays the same. Students can feel secure knowing what to expect and sometimes inappropriate behavior can be cut if a student knows what a specific time each day they can run around and let out energy such as recess or Gym.

Mrs. Jackson made sure to write a letter to the parents and guardians for her students to ensure that not only did the student know the rules but the adults did too. The rules are very simple and the consequences are fair. She not only listed the consequences for not following the rules but also consequences for students who do follow the classroom rules. While I do believe that sending a child to the principal could be pointless, because the child misses out on class time and they lose learning time, sometimes it is necessary. If both student and the guardian sign the paper, the teacher knows that everyone is on board and understands what is expected of the child. This way the parent or guardian can back up the teacher if any behavioral problems should occur, because the parent already knows what methods the teacher has tried.

It is a set homework routine. Students are able to know what is expected every day or every week and there is no second guessing or students coming into school the next day saying, "I forgot we had that due" or "No one told me we had homework." Students and parents know what is expected and a routine helps homework and daily learning work effectively. The homework covers every subject for students to work on and build their learning skills. Parents can get involved and know what is expected of their child and will be able to remind students of the homework and know what is due each night.

This is a classroom schedule for students to follow every day and students can feel secure. The schedule is simple and allows students to see what each day contains, what subject is next and what materials they will need for the next activity, so transitioning from one subject to the next goes smoother. There is less behavior problems when students know what to expect, when they can have fun and when they must learn and use their thinking caps. When there is a routine, students can feel at ease instead of wondering what is next, and in some cases students will have their books ready to go before the teacher is even ready, which means more time for learning and less time wasted waiting for students to get on board and figure out what to do next.
Rebbeca your blog looks really good and I liked the websites that you chose to review. It is good to get an idea of all that encompasses being a school teacher. It is not as easy as everyone would believe it to be. It takes tons of time and dedication. Practicing teachers websites are a good source for learning what is to be expected in a classroom...Katasha Smith
ReplyDeleteRebbeca, Mrs. Jackson does have some very good ideas on her blog. She has some fun resources on the left side of the page that are fun to explore. You have done a nice job on your blog.
